MIS in IBM
How IBM has benefited from the generous use of this technology ?
IBM have more than 350,000 users around the world. With PROFS (their profesional office system), users can write and send notes, prepare documents, manage calendars, schedule meetings, look through directories and find out information about the company.
To IBMers, PROFS has become a necessity in their jobs, if they had to choose between having PROFS and having telephone, many would like to prefer PROFS. As matter of fact, in the United States we make 400,00 phone calls a day at IBM.
What has PROFS done for company ?
IT has provided us way to communicate with virtually anyone in IBM. It has made the IBM world smaller and more manageable. Second, it has imoroved the productivity of our people. Under that umbrella, they have the original MIS functions like accounting and payroll. With the explosion of the personal computer, MIS departments have focused on end-user application for the individual.
